Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

Submitter Name

Eva Schacherl

The proposal was rejected by membership at VGM -2 with 77% of members in attendance voting to reject

Proposal

Canadian Greens will not support “next-generation” nuclear reactors, which produce toxic radioactive waste dangerous to the environment and all living things for hundreds of thousands of years, increase the risk of nuclear accidents and proliferation, detract from and are more costly than clean renewable energy.

Objective

To protect the health and environment of current and future generations of Canadians from deadly radioactive waste and to stop reckless spending on unaffordable, dirty, dangerous and unsustainable nuclear energy.

Benefit

Ending federal government spending on nuclear energy will expedite the transition to clean and sustainable energy sources. Responsible management of radioactive waste in Canada will protect the environment as well as Northern, remote and First Nations communities that are often identified for nuclear waste and nuclear energy projects.
