Ontario Green Update: Reflections on My First 100 Days

Avatar: Official post Official post

My first 100 days as Ontario's Federal Council Representative has been a whirlwind of activity and learning. I have transitioned from General Meeting (GM) Production and Policy Lead to Federal Councillor to Chair of the Policy Development Process Committee, it has certainly been an exciting journey, and a bit of a wild ride.

In 2018, members directed Federal Council to adopt a Continuous Motion Development process. In February 2024, at the 19th GM, members officially adopted Continuous Motion Development for member-submitted policies. My focus shifted to wrapping up GM responsibilities by completing the GM report and preparing the ratification vote. The Continuous Motion Development process marks a significant change in how we manage policy proposals, allowing for more inclusive and dynamic engagement outside of formal meetings. You can learn more about Continuous Motion Development here.

As Chair of the Policy Development Process Committee, I am committed to ensuring Continuous Motion Development becomes a reality. WeDecide has been updated to reflect this change, and I am excited to announce that we have already held 7 Policy Workshops which addressed 20 policies. Another policy workshop will occur in early July 2024.

The party’s first ever Continuous Motion Development all-member vote will be launched over the summer with a second ballot slated for the autumn. You will be able to review the policy motions here. Please cast your vote!

I am also excited to announce that the Federal Council has passed a new Regional Association Policy. I hope to host an Ontario Town Hall with Samuel Moisan-Domm, Vice President-English, to discuss how this policy can benefit Ontario EDAs. Samuel played a key role in developing this policy and will be able to answer questions at the town hall. Stay tuned for more details.

These past 100 days have been both challenging and rewarding, and I look forward to continuing to serve Ontario Greens with dedication and enthusiasm.

In solidarity for a sustainable future

Catherine
