Avatar: John Willson John Willson

Title

  • -TEST - Three Person Co-leadership for the GPC
  • +TEST - Coalition Co-leadership for the GPC

Body

  • -
    Introductory Text
The GPC has a single leader model currently but there has been much discussion among members concerning the possibility of going to some form of co-leader model. To date, that discussion has tended to focus on a two co-leader model. This proposal suggests that a three person co-leadership model would be more appropriate for the GPC.
    Proposal Statement (operative clause)
That the GPC adopt a three person co-leadership model, comprised of one female, one indigenous person and one additional person. The term would be for a period of three years commencing on January 1st and ending on December 31st. Each leader would serve one year as the official party leader for the purposes of the Canada Elections Act, in the order determined by them. Decisions would be made by majority vote. A single vacancy in the third year would be filled by the appointment of an interim deputy leader chosen by the two remaining co-leaders , with the proviso that the compositional integrity of the model must be maintained. A vacancy in the first two years of the term would require an all party election to fill the position. Each co-leader would have a vote on Federal Council.
    Type of Proposal
A constitutional amendment to change the constitution or bylaws
    Objective / Benefit
The Leader has many responsibilities. Sharing responsibilities among a team with complementary expertise and skills would benefit all concerned. Including an Indigenous person would demonstrate our commitment to our Values, particularly Respect for Diversity.
